Well, we are back on our my comp. Fortunately, I built this website using Obsidian, which is being stored on a cloud drive (so the notes sync seamlessly between comps) and git hub (so I can fetch the current 'live' site anytime anywhere). I wasn't exactly anticipating a catastrophic storage failure, but I probably should have expected it - if you ever notice strange behavior with a storage device, go ahead and and start assuming the worst before it actually does get worse.
Long story short - after the check disk repair tool thing got too 100% of Phase 2 it stalled for over an hour. At this point, I was really losing faith with the whole procedure and decided to try something I did a few months back when the D: drive started giving me problems (and when I should have replaced it to begin with). I removed the D: drive from the mobo (an nvme M.2 if anyone is curious) and voila, my booted up just fine.
I've purchased a new 14TB external hard drive and an external nvme/M.2 reader. Together I hope to salvage whatever I can from that old D: drive, which was already a repository for other hard drives I've recovered in the past.
Ugh, so may hard drives. Perhaps after operation December 2024 Cleaning Challenge I will have a January 2025 Digital Storage Consolidation Challenge. Maybe, just maybe.
I'll be heading to the Ga Tech campus tomorrow for the first IRL OMSCS RLDM event. Basically, the course I TA in for Tech's online masters program is holding its first on campus event - an AWS DeepRacer competition. I have my reservations, but we'll see how it goes.
Till next time.
