substack

Is this just LiveJournal for adults? Wait, adults did use LiveJournal. So is this LiveJournal plus Buy-Me-a-Coffee? LiveJournal for the all grow'd up capitalist? We all need a way to make money - I am not trying to shit on that.

I wonder if their is LiveJournal user to hobbyist-writer pipeline and some of those folks have ended up at substack.

*Sigh* - *I used to have a LiveJournal... wasn't my screen name nolo contendo? I wonder if it's still out there.

I do have a few friends that use substack, so I'm not trying to knock it too hard. I even contributed to one.
Check out This Song Changed My Life, a series curated by Grace.

Another substack I like is Emerson's Free Movie Ideas.

I guess the advantage of the platform is that you can have a newsletter/blog/NYT-looking "published" "piece" without having to do much heavy lifting. I like that idea, and I can see how it benefits a lot of writers.

I don't have much of an issue with the medium, however newsletters seems to arrive in my inbox with enthusiasm far removed from that of a personal letter.

Maybe it's the intention I like, or want, or miss. If you are reading this, it's because you found it and wanted to make it this far, not because it got plopped into your inbox, dodged the spam filter, and you didn't know what else to do because you were bored and hey - maybe you should go through some of those newsletters you are subscribed to but hardly ever read.
